De Vere Grand Harbour — Southampton

Excellent well tarined staff! They enabled my internet access and didn't expect to be tipped. Enthusiasm abound at this hotel from the Floor Mananger to Reception. A very real pleasure to stay. Not tempted enough to want to eat there as the area is full of fantastic little restaurants and shops. The cost of the food would put some off but I suggest […] you stay board only. The gym and pool were ok but was a tad small. The pool can only be accessed by steps and this would trouble anyone infirm. The steam room was clean and tidy. The changing room was full of members of the gym and to be frank littered the area. the staff there could be more attentive! Overall the stay was great but merits a 4 from 5 due to the high food prices and the gym changing area. I would stay again Uzziniet vairāk

Have stayed many times prior to cruise.

The uplighter in our room was not working. The lampshades either side of the bed did not match, one had trim hanging down, the other had a torn inner lining. Not something you would expect in a four star hotel and so cheap to remedy. This was the only blot on an otherwise comfortable stay.

The hotel is located close to Southampton city centre and the docks, service and cleanliness are good and so are the facilities. However, the mattress in my room was rather tired and the arm chair, although comfortable, was really worn. A refurbishment would therefore be needed in not too distant future.

great location and view ( get a sea facing room) but hotel needs a refurb as tired but this week got new flat screen tvs - at last some movement - now just furniture and decor required. excellent reception staff.

We stayed for 1 night at The De Vere and were delighted with every aspect. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, the Leisure Centre was spotless, warm and just what we wanted. We both ageree that the hotel gave us an extra day's holiday. Can't recommend it highly enough!

have been staying at hotel since it opened- that is the issue!! now tired and dated - rooms and tv very old fashioned tv - old , poor reception housed in old cabinet. However great location and excellent reception staff , breakfast once chaos now running very smoothly on recent visit. Just needs overall to bring it up to date!

Grand Harbour Southampton, What a friendly perfect hotel, from staff to location, food, price and the whole ambience, would highly recommend and will be booking another weekend stay there very shortly. Stayed 5th Nov 2011.

I must admit that after reading some other reviews I approached the Grand Harbour with some trepidation. But my fears were unfounded. The room was clean, dated in design admittedly - stylistically out of the 1970's rather that the 1990's. No air con is a big miss! The pool was great; breakfast was good, though not quite the range on offer of other hotels […] we have stayed at. Good value only if you can get a good deal. Room OK for a 1 night stay while waiting to cruise out. Check in is easy. Morning breakfast is fabulous. Mattresses need replaced. Harbor view is not worth the extra money because you can only see the tops of large ships; mostly your view is the motel across the street. Conveniently located to walk around the old parts of town on your own. WARNING US […] Travelers - there is only 1 sheet on the bed (sometimes common in budget UK hotels but I expected more from this chain - thought they were more upscale). Menu items do not always list ALL ingredients in a dish, so ask (if you have any sensitivity issues) before ordering and prepare to wait for your answer. Food quality is OK. Food service in bar area is very slow and expensive for what you get. Mixed drinks in bar are watery and very expensive. Don't order a Cosmopolitan! Stick with beer. However, the bar area is bright and modern. Found it odd (when I could not find hair dryer in room) that front desk receptionist did not know the answer of "should there be a hair dryer in the room?". Answer is Yes there is a hair dryer - it was just hiding and eventually I found it. Takes about 5 pounds to get cab to cruise terminal and go around 11 am because of awful traffic after lunch time. We had a wait a while to check in but from there on the servcie was excellent and the young chap who dealt with us was extremely polite and helpful. The room was lovely with a lovely view of the harbour and a nice little balcony. We went to Ennio's down the road and had a pleasant dinner and then came back and slept very well. Breakfast was good and […] we then explored the old walls before spending a couple of hours in the Tudor House Museum which really is very good indeed. A one night stay DB&B before we joined a cruise ship in Southamton. Pleasant hotel, pleasant staff. The restaurant on that particular Sunday evening was well below the level of service we expected and this was recognised by the hotel management to the point that our full restaurant bill was refunded. The De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel is very covenient to the Southampton Cruise terminal. Although you can see the ship, you will still need a taxi to get to the terminal especially if you have luggage. The staff were very helpful and particularly with my gluten free husband. The menu had many gluten free options, although the desert options could have been more varied. Just need decaffinated drinks in the rooms. A good stay

Reception was a comedy of errors. A whole bunch of young people standing around chatting and reluctant to help, yet later on in the day when checkin was busy, there appeared to be only one person on shift and she was overwhelmed but doing her best. No air con in the room and window barely opened, so was way too hot. Fan was provided but hard to find […] a suitable plugin! While trying to sort out the internet hookup I discovered horrible dust and grime on the phone cables and moldings by the desk. Also the desk chair had some sort of huge stain on the light coloured upholstery. I dearly hope it was just from someone sitting down in a wet bathing suit. Icky. I was also, for some inexplicable reason, given a handicap-accessible room which wasn't so bad except for when I lay in the tub and saw the undersides of the safety railings in the tub/shower. DISGUSTING - black and gross with grime. Also they had appeared never to have cleaned under the toilet rim. Finally, the housekeeping didn't clean my room when I had the sign out while I was out walking all morning... and I needed the room for the afternoon, so they missed the boat on cleaning it. Breakfast buffet was great although I left my table at one point to get some juice and in the space of about 1 minute they had cleared away everything - even my new pot of coffee! The restaurant and lounge have a lovely setting at the back of the hotel looking out onto the city wall with patios and gardens. Great hotel, breakfast was better than expected service and meals great in all wonderful hotel very close to all shopping and in very good position for Cruise port access and will book it next stay in Southampton. Only missing was air conditioning and TV was past use by date and fast book out on TV did not work but desk service and quick delivery and […] pick up of luggage more than made up for any missing item. The Hotel is an ideal location for the city centre, and the Cruise ship terminals. We found the hotel staff very pleasant, and the reception desk were very good, as they appeared to have no details of our booking through Hotel.com. Nevertheless after taking a photocopy of the internet details which I had downloaded from the internet and thankfully taken […] with me, things proceeded normally. As stated the hotel is well situated for the shopping centre which is well within walking distance and has all the usual shops. If like us you are visiting one of the cruise ships take a taxi, they are quite reasonably priced. One thing to note is that the pubs in close proximity, behind the old city walls were all closed on Sunday afternoon. The Hotel is well worth its 4 star rating, the rooms are good, the staff were very friendly, and the food good. The evening al la carte menu is however quite expensive. This is NOT a 4 STAR HOTEL. This is a British 2 or maybe 3 Star. IT IS OVER PRICED. It was convenient to catch the cruise ship. The Service was POOR. The BED was UNACCEPTABLE. Upon complaining, they told us they were "slowly" replacing the beds. IT was WORN OUT. The room had a balcony door to open, with some difficulty, but No Window to open. It was […] Very Hot and NO AIRCON. The Breakfast Buffet was Minimal, Cold what should have been Hot, and Slow on Coffee Service. Overall, I would Not Return and would Not Recommend it. Excellent location for shopping. Excellently located near the Cruise Ship Terminals Short Taxi ride from the National Express Coach Lines. Staff were friendly and helpful Excellent pool, hot tub and gym service. Good value for the money.

I visited the UK for 5 days and stayed at several hotels in the South that claimed to be 4 Star. I would have to say that the Devere Grand Harbour was, by far, the most superior to all I stayed at. From the professionalism, courtesy and enthusiasm of the reception staff to the servers in the restaurants. Beautiful hotel and in a super location within […] easy walking distance of the city center, the waterfront and the ferries. Great ambience making it perfect for families or business travelers. The best thing was FREE INTERNET (at last). And the overnight parking was only 5GBP. It was the extortionate over-pricing of internet use and parking facilities at other hotels which had soured my vacation, so the DeVere Grand Harbour met, and exceeded, all of my expectations in comparisons. Average cost of the room, let down by a rip off restaurant with average food and a strange menu system. Check in was a joke, in fact the best thing about the hotel was the room, a same the service lets it down. I will stay at a nearby italian restaurant with boutique stye rooms the next time.

Very good hotel and room. Excellent value.

We stayed for one night prior to a transatlantic cruise back to the U.S. Flying into London Heathrow the day before the cruise, we took the National Express bus to Southampton which was convenient and cost-effective (about $50 US for two). The hotel is modern with all the conveniences you would expect from a major hotel in the U.S. There's a very nice […] restaurant we ate in twice for breakfast and dinner - both excellent meals. There's a full indoor pool and spa facilities which is why we would say the hotel would be better if you're staying for more than a night or two. All the great facilities we didn't really use. It's convenient walking distance to the downtown sites and literally right across the street from the City Cruise Terminal if you're talking a cruise (though you still have to drag bags through the port area; we'd recommend a cab to the pier - it's a 5-minute trip and less than $10 US so it's not worth the hassle of dragging your luggage and walking especially in the rain). Staff was friendly and helpful, check-in/out was easy and the hotel was clean and in great condition. I would recommend it more for a longer stay (only since we feel we didn't make good use of all there was to offer at the hotel) or if you prefer a major hotel to a smaller B&B. Really impressed with this hotel, staff were really friendly, room lovely. great service from the front desk, the room service staff, the swimming pool, the breakfast room....will definately recommend and stay in the future if ever in Southampton.

We were alerted to a fire alarm 3 times in one night between 0100 and 0400 I think. All due to "a memeber of public" not a fire alert. The hotel apologised in a note but working Monday after no sleep was hard. I would not recomend for this purpose if they cannot control the other guests from vandalising fire alarms.

Grand by name - Grand by Nature

The setting of the De Vere in Southampton near the harbour was convenient for a pre-cruise stay. Our room was comfortable and spacious. We were pleased to have complementary in room computer access. not a bad hotel given that most hotels in England are not worth staying in. Bed and Breakfast are a better value. This hotel, however, was a pleasant surprise. Comfortable, modern, clean. The dining room was also well worth eating in.

Veldig bra beliggenhet på hotellet. Kun 5 min gange til enormt stort kjøpesenter, handlegt og gamlebyen. Høy standard på hotellet, men minus var badet på hotellet. Trenger vedlikehold.

je ne sais pas comment ils ont obtenus des étoiles !!!! Chambres sales et vieillottes En guise de clim un ventilateur sur la TV : on rêve debout le mot service n'existe pas chez eux...... Personnel incompétent , il faut leur dire que l'hotellerie c'est un métier !!!! Hotel à fuir et à surtout ne pas recommander c'est un traquenard ........
