Service was good. They provide items you might have forgot. Breakfast is fruit, waffles, bagels, muffins, coffee & cereal. Right at south entrance to USAFA so if your coming for graduation, It's a great location. You can here some car noise as it's right on I25 & Academy. Bed was comfortable. Misinformed of rate at time of reservtion. staff not able to provide tv guide ot tell us how to find help. mattress sagging in middle coffee grounds still in coffee maker from previous guests. I can go on and on..... Will never book with howard johnsons again. NEVER

"Howard Johnson Colorado Springs no help"
The room service and comfort was fine. HOWEVER when it snowed I had to shovel my own snow from the walks. The motel is on a hill and they did not provide snow removal service for 2 days. Had to walk to my room because I could not drive the car up the snow covered hill. Ran out of bread for breakfast toast one day.

We have stayed here in the past and have not been disappointed with the rate or service. The mountain view from the west side is superb! Although the breakfast menu has changed from delicious biscuits and gravy, the waffles are great!

The room and location were fine and the daily service was great. HOWEVER, you are on your own if it snows. Three other motels within walking distance of this one had parking lots cleared of snow almost before it ended, and they were on flat land. This Howard Johnson motel is on a hill and you had to shovel the snow from your own walk. There was no […] snow plow service for 2 days after the snow ended. By the time the plows go there, the snow pack and ice were there to stay. My wife slipped and fell one morning on the way to breakfast. I could not climb the hill in my car and had to walk to and from the room the first day after the storm. One would think that if you own a motel in a winter area with snow, snow removal and safety of guests would be a priority. No so here. The desk clerk did not tell us that access to the rooms was from the outside, or that there were two sides for access. We had to go back down to speak with the desk clerk, whom we couldn't find because she had been outside speaking on her cell phone. After what seemed like an eternity when you have someplace you have to be, we did find the room, but […] it was cold. No one bothered to turn on the heat prior to our arrival. It's cold in Colorado in December. I would compare this hotel to hotels I stayed in in the 70's. It is very outdated and the customer service was extremely poor. "If you get a discounted price....."
If you get a room for a discounted price make sure that you don't get stuck on the fourth or fifth floor where the lighting is bad and wifi doesn't work. I called down to the desk and was told "well mine(computer) is working" and I was welcomed to come downstairs and use the one in the lobby. I realized why I got the room in the corner with a broken […] outside light and not able to use my laptop: it came with the discounted price. However the next day when I told the clerk that the internet on my phone didn't work either, she moved me to a lower floor. That was the end of the problem. On a whole, the stay was nice, the clerk was very nice and made me feel welcomed. Close to resturants and stores. Good lighting in the parking lot. "Close to USAFA"
This hotel is good for the price and the location close to the Air Force Academy is great. However during USAFA events (ie: Parent's Weekend, etc.) the parking lot is not big enough to accomodate all the vehicles and the breakfast area cannot serve all the guests in a time efficient manner. I was disturbed by the odor of possibly "cat urine" in our room. The blanket had several tears in it as well as the top sheet on the bed. The elevator in the building where the lobby is located has a defective door. Danger of closing on or seriously injuring someone. "Safe and Key"
I was charged for a key I dropped off and charged for a safe we never used. THE FINE PRINT STATES YOU NEED TO TELL THEM AT CHECK OUT YOU WANT TO BE REFUNDED FOR THE SAFE FEE! When I checked out at 4AM the front desk girl was sleeping in the lobby. When she woke up she began some computer update and was unable to check me out and told me to just leave […] the key. I had a nice stay while in Colorado for the Pikes Peak Marathon. The view was beautiful and I really cannot complain about the service. It was a nice stay all around.

The desk clerk was wonderful, pleasant and so helpful. She knew where ever venue is located and gave clear directions! Breakfast was plentiful and tasty.....I have been to much costlier hotesl that did not serve waffles! Only improvement would be new mattresses, ours were somewhat worn; and new pillows or more of them.

"Not what we expected..."
The hotel is outdated, although the lobby is decent. The pictures make the rooms look good. The pool was extremely small and away from the rooms (we didn't use it). The "continental breakfast" was hysterical. It consisted of juice, coffe, bagels or waffles. The breakfast area was a galley and became congested with only a few people. We only ate there […] 1 day. The interior hallway of the hotel gave the impression of a seedy, crack joint. It served the purpose of sleeping and that was it. If we had brought our children we would have went elsewhere. It's cheap. Better than expected with such a low price. Walmart is right across the street and many other restaurants, etc. Good value.

I know this was only a 2 star hotel, but there are some things that could be improved upon here. There was mold in the bathroom, the toilet wouldn't flush and the air conditioner leaked onto the carpet. The customer service wasn't all that pleasant either. When I asked for a cot for my son, the woman seemed irritated and then told us they didn't have […] anymore so when I asked for blankets for him to sleep on the floor they only had 1 extra and no extra pillows. When I went in early the next morning to ask for the cot if one became available the same woman was once again....irritatated with the request. The continental breakfast was out of milk, bread, muffins, etc....they did NOT do a good job of keeping it stocked, customers were constantly asking them to fill it up. Then when we went to check out....they billed us for using the cot all of the nights of our stay when we were not able to get one on the first night! For the price and reputation I expected better, the carpet felt damp and dirty but other wise the room was clean, you had to request enough towels for the room occupents, the pool was very small and not well kept, the water was cloudy, It was an average room.
The only compliant was that I could hear the people in the next room.

The price was right and it worked for a one night stay.

The internet never worked right. If you every got conected you would loose it in less than an hour. We got skipped on housekeeping twice. The pool felt slimy due to it chemical treatment. Management seemed not to care about incidents brought to attenttion.

Terrible facilities. Bad service. Dirty and rundown. Would not be a good value if it were free. Stay away.

"You get what you pay for"
This HJ was exactly what I expected. Rooms are a bit old, but clean. You're not going to get anything fancy and the beds aren't anything to brag about, but if you're looking for a cheap place that's clean, this is it. There is a free breakfast included, but I'd recommend hitting it early otherwise there's not much left (not that there's that much to […] being with, really). The hotel is easily located off the interstate, and about 10 miles north of DT Colorado Springs. There is a super tiny outdoor pool as well. DO pay attention when checking in and out - not only did my card get charged through hotels.com when I booked, but they also charged me at Howard Johnson, so I had to deal with getting credited back for being overcharged. The room attendant was seen putting a do not disturb sign on our door so that she wouldn't have to service our room. That along with the tiny kitchen in the lobby for the "free breakfast" was like herding cattle. The hotel is tired and run down. My stay was 11 nights and the price good. I suppose you get what you pay for. Two of the 11 the room was not even touched. When I mentioned this to the front desk, the comment was that "if you left a do not disturb sign on the door, your room does not get cleaned" A no brain-er! The second time the same person indicated […] that it was marked as cleaned. A clear mistake. With room cleaning missed 18% of the time and poor customer service attitude, I would stay in a tent before renting a room from this Howard Johnson's. I would NOT recommend it to anyone. The only thing good about this place has to be the location. Other than that .. WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE. The front desk only had one person at a time , the wifi did not reach our room , and when we asked to switch the front desk seemed to be bothered by our request.
