The hotel is a beautiful one located in a great location. My only complaint is that the A/C wasn't working but was told it was by the man who delivered our luggage to our room. During the night and early morning, it was quite noisy outside making it hard to sleep. At the same time, it was too warm in the room not to have the window open. Great location and hotel. However I don't get what was five stars about it. Also no complemetary Wi-Fi, which is very annoying now days.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights. The location was just up from the Palace Hotel. We could see the Thyssen Museum out our window. The Prado was just across the street and Starbucks was just a short walk. Very clean and very quiet. They provided robes, slippers, a chocolate every night, red rose, mini bar, toiletries and hair dryer. The only […] thing I was not happy with was the wifi. They gave you 60 free uninterrupted minutes of wifi in your room on your personal laptop every 24 hours. A computer was provided for free use in the lobby for all guests. All the other hotels we stayed in on this trip provided free unlimited wifi so I was disappointed that the only 5 star hotel we stayed in did not do the same. The staff were very helpful and spoke English. They made restaurant reservations for us locally and when we traveled to Segovia. They also recommended an excellent restaurant just around the corner that provided delicious food. We also found a laundromat very close by to wash our clothes. The tourist bus stop for both routes is also just a short walk away. It was a very easy walk to the Sol area also for shopping or to get on the metro. Uzziniet vairāk

The hotel was in an ideal location. The staff was very professional and helpful. Room sound quality was better than most. The larger soft bed was a real plus after a long flight. I would most certainly return to the Villa Real if ever in Madrid again someday.

I am in Madrid about 3 times a year and would not consider staying anywhere other than the Villa Real. The location is excellent; the rooms are very comfortable and well equipped, and the staff is super friendly. It is also less expensive than its neighbors the Ritz and the Palace.

All the staff we came into contact with were excellent, however our room was in need of an update. We were fortunate we had a good deal via Hotel.com

Great location, good staff etc But very noisy, strangely it is internal noise, there is very littile outside noise but we could hear very clearly people walking around in the rooms above, sounded like they were in the room, we could hear our neighbors hovering and flushing the toilet and people walking in the corridors. This wasn't low level but very […] loud and sounded as if they were in the room. On two nights there was very loud buzzing in the room, I had to call down and they turned something off. Nice hotel, a little bit cold and boring reception but a nice bar just beside. Impressive treat New Years Eve with raisins and wine in each room. Friendly reception. Somewhat dark rooms that made it difficult to read in bed and work in the room, but the standard and the atmosphere is nice.

Location is wonderful. We arrived Christmas Day and there was a mixup with our reservation. We booked the duplex room and received a standard room. The room was so spacious we did not realize that it was only the standard room. The bed in this room was not comfortable. My partner and I both had a restless night. The second day we were moved to the duplex […] room and comped 2 breakfasts for 2 days for the mix up. The duplex room was great. Well worth the money. Lovely little hotel, just opposite the Westin but almost half the price. Walking distance to shopping. Lovely rooms with separate lounge area. Friendly staff, would go again.

Overall I would recommend this hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean and exactly as pictured. The only problem we had was that the air conditioner never cooled the room as much as we wanted and it quit cooling completely on the last night. The other, very small, issue we had was in getting washcloths. Apparently Europeans […] don't use them??? When we finally made them understand what we wanted they did provide us with ONE each day (for 2 people). On the good side, we didn't have a balcony, but we did have a very nice view from our room and were very close to the Thyssen Museum and the Prado and only a short distance from the Metro, Plaza del Sol, & Plaza Mayor as well as many restaurants & shops. I am in Madrid three times a year, and I always stay at the Villa Real. The hotel is terrific, the staff very friendly, and in an ideal location.

The front desk was staffed by a grumpy man and a girl who did not make eye contact, or say hello- just checked us in with no more than grunts. Dont stay here for business, as they charge 20.00 a day for unlimited internet use, when asked why (every hotel in spain we stayed in has free wifi)they were just grumpy. And guess... what they didnt say thanks […] you or good bye-- Wow this is not a five star hotel. Lobyy was shabby and hotel was tired looking. Great location. but Id go somewhere else for the money. Prompt check in by very helpful staff - the glass of champagne in the bar was a nice touch. We stayed in a duplex room that had a fantastic balcony with a great view. Absolutely brilliant. The room itself was ok, but to be honest, the decor was really tired and in need of updating (to be fair we did notice some rooms being refurbished on our floor). […] The dark fabrics and furnishings made the whole place feel very dark. Another minor point - there was a bit of a stale smell in the room. The location of the hotel is superb - quiet (ish) but very close to all the action if you want it. Another great bonus is you can use the facilities in the nearby sister hotel. Great if you want to use the gym, lounge by the (small) roof top pool, or just relax and stretch out on a sunbed. This was our first time in Spain, and our first city was Madrid. This hotel is located about 3 blocks from the famous Prado Museum, and directly across the street from what is the equvallent of the Spanish Congress. As a result, there were police in the area, making this an especially safe place. However, we walked the streets and squares within a mile, […] and nowhere did we ever feel unsafe, police or not. We were never panhalndled, and despite what I read, I saw no sign of pickpockets anywhere we walked. That being said, I do take precautions. Madrid is one of the cleanest cities I have ever seen, and within a few blocks of the hotel there are many large plazas featuring wonderful restaurants. Tapas, or what we might call Hors D Oeurves plates, are the norm. You get a bunch of them and share at the table. Be prepared to fork out money for water, as "free water" does not exist. You have to pay for bottled water, even though the water in Madrid is perfectly safe to drink. Another thing to watch is "pan" or bread. If they bring you bread, it's not free, and you can pay up to 3 euros per piece! Feel free to say no thanks if they bring you something you did not order! You can spend a day at the Prado Museum of Art, and the next door botanical gardens. THere is a hop on/hop off bus stop just 3 blocks from this hotel. BE SURE to see the Royal Palace, which is along the bus route. The hotel restaurant and bar is so so, but I must say EVERYONE in Madrid, including the hotel staff, was nice and helpful and I got no sense of any animosity towards my Amercian family. Of course, I speak some spanish, and it always helps to try to honor your hosts with a polite effort. We had a wonderful room which was 2 level on the top floor, with a fairly large balcony with table, chairs and umbrella, and a great view of the city. The lower room is a sitting room with couch and there are inside spiral stairs to the bedorom which is a bit small for a king bed, but not objectionable. The room Uzziniet vairāk

I doubt you could find a better location in the city. The hotel sits on a quiet—and very secure plaza—just a few short blocks to the Prado, El Retiro, Reina Sofia and the main train station (a nice spot if you’re coming in or going out on the airport bus). The narrow streets surrounding it are full of places to eat—-I suggest Artemis, the sample platter […] for two is just 25 euro (be careful though they will place bread on your table and then charge you for it if you eat it; this is rampant everywhere.) It must be said that the comments about noise at this hotel are true. Given there is no carpet in the building—just marble and wood--, the closets squeak like they haven’t seen oil since the French revolution, as does the bed—which is hard as stone--, and voices can be heard—though muffled--in the living area, but quite clear in the bathroom, this hotel is not for the those expecting silence. I will say though that it was more than tolerable and the large size of the standard room well made up for it.. It’s not a constant noise as people are not hanging out in their room. You may have some noise around 3am as people stumble in, or around 5pm as breaks are taken, and housekeeping seemed to get started around 7am. Our room faced the square and with the door closed not a peep from outside could be heard. Many people comment that this is not a 5-star and I would agree, perhaps a 4 would be more appropriate. The desk staff was as cordial as you would expect in a city, friendly but curt. If you’re going to Madrid to see the sights and want a solid central location where everything can be accessed on foot—and a smidgen of luxury (such as a door man) is your style, this is a nice place to stay. I have stayed here before and it is a nice hotel. Rooms had not been refurbished since my last stay 4 years ago. I was there for two nights and the one day I wanted to be in and out of my room, it was not made up until after 4:00 pm. Not acceptable.

Small hotel in an ideal location of Madrid. Just back from Prado so quieter spot. Lots of good cafes very close by. Staff very helpful. Would definitely go back again.

A very nice hotel, great location. Only drawback is hallways and rooms are marble floors and you can hear people coming in and wandering about. Not too bad, but can be problem if you sleep lightly

This hotel is walking distance to the Prado and Thyssen-Bornemizia, so for museum lovers it's perfect. The staff speaks English and is extremely helpful. They recommended several really good restaurants.

We liked our stay - staff was very warm and kind. Room service was not great but bar food was excellent. Beds are uncomfortable, but otherwise rooms are modern and nice. The aircondition in our room was not working. We didn't notify the hotel of the problem immediately thinking that it would get fixed on its own. The problem persisted the second night and we finally complained. The air condition was immediately fixed and during the middle of the night, the condesation was too much. Drops of water were drenching the […] floor next to the bathroom and the noise of the drops were unbearable. We couldn't sleep because of the noise and had to put towels on the floor and on the ceiling between the panels. We hope to obtain some kind of credit back due to the inconvience we experienced. Hotel is old and definitely not a 5 star. 3.5 or 4 star at best.

This was my third stay, and I've always loved the hotel. This time they put me in room 105, facing the construction in Plaza de los Cortes (jackhammers). Bathroom was unreasonably small, and no toiletries or hairdryer were provided. Was only staying one night so didn't bother asking for another room, but was very disappointed.

We stayed here 3 nights and had a room in the back of the Hotel,the road out front was being redone.It was a mess in front of the entrance,but this was no fault of the Hotel.Just know that it will be difficult to enter.

The price is rather high compared to what is provided.

El hotel se encuentra muy bien ubicado. LA decoración de las habitaciones es un poco anticuada para mi gusto, pero dentro de todo está bien.

Hôtel un peu vieillot mais très bien situé. Les chambres sont confortables. Le personnel très serviable. Bon rapport qualité-prix.

Hotellet er bra, bare at de holdt på med oppussing og bråket ødela siestatiden min. Frokost er 21 Euro, alt for dyrt. Ellers fantastisk beliggenhet og flott hotell

Très bien situé au centre de la ville en face des Cortes. Le mobilier et les équipements sont usés et éraflés. Bien insonorisé pour l'extérieur, pas à l'intérieur (revêtement du sol en marbre). C'est un 5***** du temps de sa splendeur, qui a besoin d'une réfection générale. Tarif excessif vu l'état général.
