If you want Miami, Avalon definitely fits the essence with it's art-deco feel. It's more mature than the other hotels on the Ocean Dr strip. The lobby floor restaurant is a higher end quality as opposed to the others which play club music if you're into that. I was on a family vacation so I needed my hotel toned down to suit my needs. Was great. Only complaint was pillow, that is the ONLY thing!

Overall very nice hotel however the room I booked with a partial ocean view was a bit of a stretch. When I peeked out of the window which was a side room and looked left I could barely see the ocean in between the palm trees so it that respect the description was not accurate. I would term it as a "very partial obstructed ocean view" at best.Hotel food […] was very good and locations was great. Also not happy with the gob of hair that was stuck on the wall in the shower before we checked in and stayed there un moved throughout my 3 day stay. This hotel is the worst hotel that I ever stayed at and they had bed bugs and the manager needs to take a management class.

We had a great time! We had read reviews on a bunch of hotels before we selected Avalon. Of course there were the few "sour grape" reviews citing rude front desk, noise, blah, blah, blah! We couldn't have been more pleased! Front desk was polite, helpful, professional. We were on the side street near the corner and with the A/C on, we didn't even notice […] the noise, despite it being south beach. Great deal! I have traveled to south beach many times and stayed in many different hotels. I liked this hotel and will stay here again. Friendly staff and breakfast included. The only bad part is no pool on site, the pool is 10 blocks away.

Best possible location in South Beach. Reasonably big room and very clean. Very nice and quiet building in an otherwise crowded area. Basic but good complimentary breakfast.

Room was clean, location was amazing. Staff was very acccommodating and kind. Valet parking worked well but it was a pain to get the car out on a beautiful South Beach day (traffic hold ups). It was very loud outside at night but that is what you get with this prime location.

The loacation is perfect for a beach vacation right in the middle of all the South Beach action. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The beds are terrific, better than the ones we had in previous years at the Ritz Carlton and Loews. The hotel was surprisingly quiet and comfortable and the restaurant is superb. We will be back!

Overall perfect for a two night stay. Plus points. Nice staff. Room and bed comfortable and clean. Bathroom adequate and shower good, situated over the bath, so there was a choice. location was great -- on 7th and Oceans Drive, but everything else was pretty much bare bones. Free WiFi was great to have to get some work in between WMC events. Overall it was a good place to store your luggage and get a few hours of sleep. Bathrooms were tiny without much water pressure, but we were rarely indoors so it doesn't really matter. Nice hotel, stayed for business, was cheaper than the chains on the mainland. The quality of my room was equivalent to a standard Holiday Inn or Courtyard.

Expensive old hotel, in heart of activity ++ Very loud entertainment all night long. Breakfast buffet was nice. Lucky: great weather!

Although building is old, this is not bad for a very short stay. The bed is very comfortable with soft pillows , just didn't like the entrance hallway. Try booking from 10th street on wards if you want closer to the ocean by Ocean Ave. of course, more nice hotels, book early....

I had to book this hotel last minute. Front desk was very nice, small lobby bar, great free continental breakfast in the am room was small but very clean. We were on a side street so it was not to loud from the night life

The amenities at The Avalon were passable but nothing more. Staff's focus on friendliness and hospitality felt like an effort to compensate for the overall drab interior. The hotel seems to think their prime location makes it ok to forgo basic upkeep like new carpeting, clean corners, and even enough outlets in the room to charge one's fun (I had to […] either unplug a lamp or the clock radio to charge my phone). Well I researched this hotel before reserving and thought I had made a wise choice. I know all of the hotels in the area are older, and our driver told us they are not well maintained because they have a good location. I was very suprised how rundown and old the hotel looked inside. My overall rating is 2 and I base it on the following. #1) First we […] were given a room that was being remodeled. We had to come back down to the lobby with one of the workers and they found us another room. #2) The next room was in the very back of the hotel, next to the soda machine. It was in this area that the maid service left the cart and all of the bags of trash and soiled linnens during our stay as well. #3) The room was what i would associate with 'Motel Quality" The remote was on a cord with a lock so that it could only be moved approx 12 inches from the nightstand to prevent theft. I have never even seen anything like this before! #4) We stayed there during the week and the street noise was very loud. Fortunately the window airconditioner was loud when running and it drowned out most of the noise! #5) I can forgive it being rundown I suppose but not being clean isn't as easy. The only thing that redeemed the hotel at all was the friendliness of the staff. They let us check in very early and kept our bags for a while after checkout until we returned. They also let us change our reservation to 2 double beds instead of 1 queen bed at check in. The staff really gets a 4 star rating. Truly, the hotel needs to be shut down for a week or two and cleaned and remodeled. I saw 2 other hotels in the area that I would chose if I could have made a change... South Park Hotel and Essex Hotel. Many of the hotels located on the next block looked much much nicer and it would only surmount to an additional 5 mins or less of walking. Was recently in Miami over a weekend in January. Staff was excellent, specifically the front desk staff! Clean room, small but great location to everything. The free breakfast in the morning was a plus. Would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Courteous staff. Clean, decent continental breakfast, and excellent location in the center of South Beach very close to the ocean and South Beach attractions. Would definitely stay there again if the opportunity presents itself.

My husband, teenage son and myself were very pleased with our stay at the Avalon. Great service. Rooms are adequate, bedding and bathroom are very clean. Reasonable rates as in comparison to other hotels we were considering.

A/C unit was loud. Bed was not comfortable. The place needed a real good cleaning (dirt in the corners of the bathroom). There was paint spilled all over the run down hall carpeting. Great hotel for a spring break college student. The price is high only for the location on the Strip and beach right accross the street.

My family and I recently stayed at the Avalon as we were attending the Orange Bowl. The hotel was great! The art deco style charming and the staff wonderful. Anna was very friendly and helpful when we arrived. Being an older hotel we found the rooms to be small but the beds comfortable. The room and common areas were very clean. A free breakfast was […] available each morning which we found to have quite a good selection of foods. The best part of the hotel is its location. My husband and I went her last minute for NYE. We are from Atlanta. The staff was great, and location perfect. There was even a nice free breakfast in the morning. The only problem is the AC is too loud and was disruptive to sleeping. The front desk also doesn't have a concierge. Other than that it was a perfect stay. Highly recommended!

Overall we really liked the place and recommend it. We had two ocean front rooms on third floor and two not ocean front. The ocean front rooms experienced lots of loud party goers in the street until 2:30 - 3:00 AM. We stayed 3 nights Sunday 12/25 thru Wednesday 12/28. The back rooms did not have noise problems. Well located. Clean. Good price for the value.

Hotel is ok but location is far too noisy. We had a room at front and the music from the surrounding restaurants and bars continued until the small hours. All I wanted was a decent night's sleep. I was told that the noise would not be bad on a Sunday night and that we would be given a quiet room.

The staff was wonderful and the location is ideal. The rooms were clean, but nothing special. We loved being able to be in the middle of it all, but I would suggest requesting a room in the back of the hotel if you want a very quiet room.

I picked the Avalon just based on the overall comparison of the hotels in the area. When I got there, it was a "wow!" experience. The location alone made it worth it. Talk about being literally in the MIDDLE of South Beach. Why bother going to the clubs? might as well have the party right at my front door. We arrived at midnight and the action has just […] started on Ocean Avenue. Did I say wow? It took half an hour just to clear the traffic to check in. As far as the other amenities, the room is clean (but small due to old architecture), the free breakfast is decent (actually quite nice), the front desk is friendly and helpful. We like it so much after we left for Key West that we came back to South Beach and stayed there again (just left yesterday). And get this, the lady at the front desk remembered not only our faces but also my name. When I walked into my room (a different one from the first time), I felt really at home (sorry I know this is corny but it's true). If you love being on South Beach, you'll love this hotel. it's right in the heart of things. So 5 stars for location. I found the hotel and room just average. The people were nice and warm. Bartenders were cool and chatty. The rooms were standard. I stayed on the back side because I heard that the noise from the street on the beach side made it difficult […] to sleep. However, on the back side the garbage truck comes eeeeearly and it's noisy. So I say pick your poison. You're going to have a disrupted sleep one way or the other. Not a bad place. Beds were a little stiff but sleepable. Rooms were a little small but it's an older building on Ocean so it's understandable. Under going some ADA upgrading right now (10/11) so there was no elevator.

Upon check-in the front desk associate was rude and was not able to find my reservation.....after 20 minutes she finally checked us in but she was far from professional and didn't apologize for the amount of time it took to get everything settled. The elevators were out of service, the hallways felt like they would collapse and the room was smaller […] than any room I have EVER stayed in....(including cruises). The bed was hard and the view left everything to be desired. The hotel was not worth the money and is definitely not indicative of what a hotel on South Beach should be. The valet staff and other hotel employees. We dined at the restaurant and the food was great however the entire place, hotel and restaurant, are in need of some major updating. yes the hotel is old, but by god the location is great. the beach is literally across the street, and you can probable stay in ocean drive for a year without needing anything else. if you have children this hotel is not a good idea. i wasn't terrible with our youngling, but is not design for that.

I felt this hotel was a perfect stay for my friends and me on our recent trip to Miami. We stayed here for 4th of July weekend, and we were directly across from all the action. The hotel looks old, and the rooms are small, but it was nicer than most places we stayed in Florida while there for a week and a half (a lot of beach hotels have the same feel, […] and this is definitely one of the nicer ones). It's in the perfect location, an appropriate price, and the front desk service was really helpful. The person who helped me gave me advice on what to do based on what we were interested in for the weekend, and they were always available to help with valet, bags, towels for the beach, or whatever we needed. WE SPENT OUR SEVENTH WEDDING ANIVERSARY AT THE AVLON AND ENJOYED EVERY THING ABOUT IT. THE LOCATION IS EXCELLENT. THE STAFF WAS EXCELLENT. THE FOOD AT THE RESTURANT WAS EXCELLENT. WE RECOMMEND IT HIGHLY

Although the hotel was slightly older, we enjoyed our stay here. We did not spend much of our time indoors, hence the reason why this hotel served its purpose; we slept, showered and changed in our room, otherwise we were outdoors enjoying the best of what South Beach has to offer. The hotel is directly on Ocean Drive and in the middle of plenty attractions […] ( shopping, restaurants, and the beach just across the street). Hotel staff was very polite and friendly, always opened the door as we were leaving and entering, never failed to wish us a good day in the moring and a good evening at night- these small gestures did not go unnoticed. Unfortunately, the elevator was out of service but luckily we were able to request a room on the first floor without any difficulty. To make up for this inconvenience the hotel tell gave out gift bags which included a bottle of wine, and hotel t-shirts which was nice of them. Overall I would give the hotel accomadations a 3 star rating; they could look into new carpeting in the rooms or crack down on chamber maids to do a more thorough vacumming. I would recommend the avalon to those who are on a budget and simply need a room to sleep, shower and change in. They canceled our reservation. Until we arrived to the hotel they informed us that they had moved our reservation to another hotel, which was far away and less quality. We were very displeased but they just didn't care. We will never ask for that hotel and never use Hotels.com anymore!!

Great hotel right across from Lummus Beach and the heart of all the action! A Fish Called Avalon was delicious and free breakfast was yummy. We spent july4th there and have never been so close to the fireworks!
