they tool us in at 9:00 in the am as we were coming from a cruise. Most hotels would let you wait until "checkin" time. This along with the quality of the room and helpfulness of the staff convinced us this is the place in Athens.

Beautiful hotel with great staff which was very helpful in dealing with a transportation strike. The rooftop restaurant with a view of the city and the Acropolis is amazing.

The hotel is centrally located and ideal for sightseeing. The SPA has excellent facilities and a big hit with the kids, but the therapies hugely overpriced (double of any other 5* Hotel I stayed in Europe, States or Asia). Paid for an upgrade to deluxe rooms but still found them not big enough for the price. The staff were helpful but did not go out […] of their way to make this a memorable stay as I am accustomed to when I pay this sort of money for a week's family holiday. I really enjoyed this hotel. It's beautiful and has the reputation of being the best in Athens. It's the hotel that my 6-star cruise line uses for pre- and post-cruises, but being able to book on here saved me A LOT of money! Very centrally located with friendly and helpful staff and delicious food. I'd definitely stay here again.

This hotel is a great value for the money. It's one of Europe's grand hotels and definitely worth staying in while in Athens. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the concierge is great with maps, suggestions, etc. Definitely special are the beautiful first class indoor pool and spa (with five different aromatherapy steam rooms and saunas) which […] are free to use for hotel guests -- give yourself at least an hour to experience it all. The roof top pool (with bar service) is nice (but a little dated) and is a perfect way to cool off after sight seeing all day in the Athens heat. The rooms are decorated in a very ornate traditional style and are American sized, with large marble bathrooms -- all in very good condition. Definitely one of the best hotels I have stayed in -- in Athens or elsewhere in the world. The location is perfect -- walking distance to the Acropolis and all major sights. It's also located in probably the cleanest, nicest section of Athens and I felt reasonably safe in the neighborhood. The hotel is across the street from the Greek Parliament and Syntagma square, so it's possible there could be demonstrations in the square as I have read about in the papers, but we did not witness any. The building is very beautiful and located on Syndagma Square adjacent to the Kolonaki. The staff is knowledgeable and accomodating. The restaurant, which is also the breakfast area, overlooks the Acropolis and the outdoor pool overlooks Lycabetus Hill.It is the best managed hotel I have ever seen.

I was very excited to stay at the Grande Bretagne because of all the history this hotel has and I was not disappointed. The facilities were amazing and the rooms comfortable. It had all the amenities of a luxury hotel. The location was also excellent close to the metro and within walking distance of most attractions in central Athens. It is also felt […] like a safe area although we did notice a pick pocket or two which is to be expected. The pool area had an amazing view and was very relaxing as was the roof top restaurant. Most of the staff was very helpful but like any service oriented business a couple needed some reeducation so as to avoid being rude. My only real complaint for the hotel is that the business center was subpar for a hotel of this quality and the internet not being included and being cumbersome to use (and I am technologically savy) was disappointing. The location was wonderful so you could walk easily to everything or take a short cab. The rooms were smaller that I would like. We changed rooms so we could look out on the Parthenon. Loved the Cigar room, beautiful. The pool was very crowded , needed more chairs. The food was very good. I would highly recommend it.

The hotel is stunning although the reception staff were abrupt, so that didn't start our stay off well. The room was clean and beautiful but the bed was quite small; we asked for a large bed but got a standard double. The rooftop restaurant has stunning views, although I'd suggest eating in the GB Corner restaurant and having drinks at the rooftop bar. […] Far more menu choice at GB Corner, better food, and you don't pay a premium for the view. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough! I stayed with my ten year old daughter and we where welcomed and treated incredibly well. The super helpful and friendly staff, amenities such as spa pool, the central location and the roof top restaurant and corner bistros all helped to make our stay absolutely wonderful. My only gripe (as with any luxury […] stay hotels I go to) is being charged for wifi (€10 a day) when you pay a premium to stay at a 5 star hotel... C'est la vie! I did not find the reception staff very friendly, but the housekeeping, bar, and spa staff were much nicer. I really enjoyed the pool and the spa facilities, although I found the massages on the pricey side. Wifi network connectivity was excellent at all times. They initially wanted to charge me separately for my laptop and smartphone, but in the end […] waived the second charge. The room was magnificent, with chandeliers and marble floors and walls covering the entire bathroom. Much to my surprise, there were no demonstrations/rioting outside the hotel during my stay, despite its proximity to the parliament building. Not sure whether I was just lucky, or whether TV networks exaggerate the level of protests. Easy access to the main subway station in Athens cut transportation costs and gave me easy access to all the tourist locations I wanted to visit. As a bonus, I actually got to see the ex-King and Queen of Greece, who were guests at the hotel during my stay. Rubbing shoulders with royalty does not happen to me very often. We always go to Athens several times a year with my husband and we prefer staying at Syntagma square as it central and close to almost everywhere. This time we prefered Grand Bretagna and we simply admired the hotel. It was decorated perfect, the staff was welcoming, the ambiance was great. I do recommend everyone to stay there.

For the price this hotel should be beyond all expectations but I have stayed in nicer Holiday Inns. They definitely make the effort to be top tier with fancy decor but the service is awful. Small crowded rooms compared to the competition and the employees are not excited to help you. We only stayed one night and the hotel is very elegant with excellent service. The hotel is located a little distance from The Plaka were dinner and shopping was to be had. It also faces the government buildings so the sound of rioting and the smell of tear gas punctuated our stay.

The Hotel Grande Bretagne is one of the finest hotels in Europe. Overall I would give it three thumbs up for excellent service and comfort. The location is terrific as long as there are no protests by the local Athenians. Situated directly across the street from the Greek Parliment, the Grand Bretagne's location is both a plus and a minus depending […] on the civil content or discontent of the citizens of Athens. There we 2 major protests and marches on Parliment during our stay. The riot police had closed down the streets in front of our hotel for hours preventing our ingress and egress from the hotel. Fortunately there was no tear gas, but riot police were everywhere! Had the tear gas been lobbed, I would have retreated to the exquisite spa in the basement for a relaxing massage! C'est la vie. The Concierge, the front desk. Almost everyone was bad. We requested to go to the Islamic museum in Athens. He sent us to the wrong museum. Called Housekeeping to change bulbs that were not working. No response for hours. Front desk the same.On the last day an engineer shows up.

My wife and I spent 2 night at the GB before departing for the islands. It's a very nice hotel in the middle of Athens near all of the sights. Excellent rooftop restaurant, nice spa, and a very relaxing place to spend a couple of days.

The Hotel Grande Bretagne was as perfect as we could have expected. We booked a junior suite and were lucky enough to be given a room on the "Butler Floor". The staff were excellent, the "butlers" were in fact more like concierges, and were extremely helpful with travel arrangements, dinner reservations, and sight seeing. The room was beautiful, the […] breakfast on the roof was a joy to start each day, and Syntagma was so well situated in terms of accessing the rest of the city (only 2 stops to Gazi, and within walking distance of Kolonaki). I booked this room for 1 night for my daughter and I before leaving for a cruise out of Athens. The location was excellent since we had limited time to explore, everything we wanted to see was within walking distance. The concierge was friendly and experienced. We were able to walk to the Acropolis in about 15 minutes and spent the day exploring and […] going to the New Acropolis Museum which was excellent We walked back through the Plaka shops and enjoying window shopping The food at the hotel cafe on the pool level was great and we enjoyed cocktails there twice. The only negative was that the shower drain was clogged and flooded the bathroom which required a visit by a plumber and housekeeping to correct. This was prompt and fixed the problem. We were able to arrange a late checkout and arrive at the cruise ship at the right time. The service was wonderful at the front desk as well. Our rate included buffet breakfast on the roof top cafe and the view was so worth it. The city and Acropolis view was fantastic for photos. Taxi service in Athens can be variable. I asked the concierge to book a taxi for me to pick us up at airport on arrival and go to hotel and the next day to take us from hotel to cruise ship port. I was so glad i did, as the day we departed there was a large crowd waiting to leave for cruises and not enough taxis to take them. In der ersten Nacht hatte ich eine Junior Suite, die direkt an einem Lüftungsschacht war. Die Klima-Generatoren am Boden des Schachtes waren so laut, das ich nicht schlafen könnte. In der zweiten Nacht bekam ich eine Suite im 6. Stock. Hier war die Aussicht gut, aber es gab kein heißes Wasser. von morgens bis nachts kein heißes Wasser!

Séjour début mai 2012. Hotel idéalement situé place Syntagma (hyper centre) à côté du Parlement Grecque. Vu magique de la terrasse du restaurant sur l'acropole et la ville. Promenez vous au rez de chaussée, on se croirait dans un musée tant la déco, les objets exposés, l'architecture sont fabuleux.et allez voir (ou profiter# […] de la piscine couverte au sous sol. Pas grand chose à dire. rien de vraiment négatif mais rien de vraiment dingue non plus(si ce n'est la vue depuis le bar-terrasse !). C'est un peu le problème. L'établissement est superbe dans le style "palace" mais il manque un petit plus de "magie". Les tarifs sont élevés (séjour dans une chambre "deluxe" au strict minimum sur les prestas et vraiment […] petite en taille). É um hotel elegante, bem localizado, do restaurante tem-se uma vista espetacular da Acrópole, e está próximo das melhores lojas. O café da manhã poderia ser melhor, mas de modo geral o atendimento é bom. Atenção pois em Atenas o comércio fecha à tarde às segundas, quartas e sábados, com exceção das lojas de departamentos ou grandes magazines.

Absolutes Top Hotel, wahrscheinlich das beste in Athen. Beste Lage, Top Service. Das Essen vom Room Service war das beste was wir je hatten. Das Zimmer war nicht grade riesig, aber sehr gepflegt. Roof Top Bar und das Restaurant GB Corner waren super. Uneingeschränkt zu empfehlen.
