March 16-23, 2013 We loved it. Just a few easily resolved issues. Since we booked thru hotels.com, we didn't have airport transport included. They put us in the wrong vehicle. We saw other resorts as people in the van were dropped off. Then they realized we were in the wrong taxi, but we were taken to our resort. Language barrier. Then leaving the resort, […] they thought we had pre-arranged transport. Took about half an hour with no one taking us for me to get them to get us a taxi. Language again. At the resort about the only thing that caused very slight issues was a shower curtain not long enough to keep water IN the shower (so we used the tub with hose/shower head. Sometimes the water wasn't hot. I have back issues, so the hard bed was a problem after the first night. I asked for 3 blankets, which I tri-folded and put under the bottom sheet, giving me 9 layers of softening. We loved the resort. Large pool and beach great. Lots of chairs/shaded areas. Never felt crowded. Food was good for buffets. Lots of variety. Ate in the Italian, Japanese and Steak restaurants. All great. We definitely recommend Catalonia Bavaro. Just one word about coming home. The airport is small and under-staffed. On a Saturday, thousands of people are leaving. TWO people checking passports. Make sure you allow a LOT of time to get thru all that. We were there 3 hours before our flight, and we only waited about half an hour for our flight boarded. Uzziniet vairāk

We booked the honeymoon privledged package and I am so glad we did. The room was nice, bed was comfortable (not lumpy as I read in other reviews), room was clean. The only complaint I had was all the honeymoon suits are on the third floor. The beach was amazing and since we were privledged we had a private section of the beach which always had plenty of loungers. Grounds were nice and always being worked on. staff is always picking up empty cups and cleaning. Pool was great! Staff there always had the crowd dancing and laughing. Smiley is the best bar tender! Found out using the forte gets you stronger drinks.Food was good for the most part. Main buffet has more to offer but smaller buffet by the pool has a privledged lounge for a quieter place to relax. My advice would be to go with an open mind and enjoy the experience. If your picky go somewhere else (this is not a Sandals). Very great resort for the price. My experience at Cantalonua was consistent with most of the other reviewers. The room was comfortable and cleaned daily. Plenty of towels and bottled water. The pillows were horrendous - I didn't even know such bad pillows were available in the world. The shower was TINY - impossible to move without turning off the water. The air conditioning barely worked, and we had to keep the ceiling fan blasting on high speed the entire time. The "mini bar" was actually a mini refridgerator, that was supposed to be […] stocked with water, sodas and beer every day... but it was rarely restocked ever... we only got beer (2 cans) on one day. The room seemed like it had not been cleaned before we arrived, and the tub and shower got dirtier every day. Even when we asked repeatedly for things (like pillows and beer and tissues and toilet paper) it rarely ever arrived. There was only one type of beer available... no choices! And a couple nights they had a massive yard sale type thing going on, with really obnoxious selling and haranguing from the sellers that was nearly impossible to avoid. The food is just OK in most cases... we had a few items that were tasty, but we also had some meals that were totally inedible. And the lighting in many of the restaurants was either way too bright and harsh, or non-existent. Notes to travelers: Beware of sales people at the airport pretending to be your "concierge," and while at the hotel, just keep asking over and over for everything. Maybe you'll eventually get it. Check in was great. The food was just ok. The resort area and pool were amazing. If u can, stay here when it's really on sale. Not worth the sale price of 250 a night for the regular junior suite. We spent 10 days with my wife and our 2 kids. The hotel is very good and you have many things to do. The Fun Staff is very nice and they don´t force you to participate in the beach or pool activities. The beach is very large and you have many beach chairs in case you are late in the morning. Loved it! Highly Recommended! Will go back! Ok, beach is gorgeous, long stretch of beautiful snady beach, crystal clear water...with accessible water activities if you choose. Good locatiOn, nice beach, white sand and turqouis water. Though there are algies and the staff sweeps daily. This is coconut land, but they dont even offer fresh coconut. Overall its good place to visit.

I have stayed at the Catalonia Bavaro 5 times now (just returned 2/13/13) from a 10 day stay. We normally travel with a group of anywhere of 6 - 20 people. We went there with our family and absolutely loved it! The staff was great, especially the servers working in the restaurants and buffets. The restaurants were OK food wise, we went there a couple of times but ended up going back to the buffet. The buffets were superb! The rooms were cleaned everyday but the towels were sometimes delivered to us late, where we had to call front desk and request for towels. The activities that they sell on the beach were alright. They are cheaper on the beach then the front desk, always negotiate at the beach because they start with a higher price and would lower up to $40 on a trip. Ceiling in bathroom leaked when showers were taken from the room above. Staff was very nice, fun, and always smiling. Room (other than leak in bathroom) was clean and well kept. Beach, pool area and common areas where beautiful! Food was ok, not great. For the price we paid I would go back.

The room was what I expected, the beach was beautiful, but the food was poor. It is listed as a 5 star resort on their website. Breakfast was typical for an all inclusive, service at both buffets was unhelpful. During the day, it was stews, potatoes and rice. Nothing authentic, or seasoned with any herbs or spices. The Mexican & the Italian restaurant’s […] food were very bland as well. On the 4th night we were going to try the steakhouse, but the hostess told us that the Japanese rest would be closed the next day. So we went to Japanese instead, the next night we go to the Steakhouse, it was closed. A board in the lobby that listed the daily restaurant closing, but there should be a full week’s schedule. The drinks were good, but like all the staff there was a language barrier. My husband ordered Manhattans the entire trip, but they were made differently by every bartender. Every place we stopped, we were greeted in Spanish. We are not sure what the assumption of Americans is, is it known that Spanish is widely taught in grade school? I speak some Spanish, but my husband does not, I do not believe the expectation should be of the guests to speak the local language, but vice versa. Our cleaning staff was fine, except on the 4th day we needed some laundry done. We told the cleaning lady, she came in and called a #, and said they would pick it up in 5 mins. To be more accurate, I rate this hotel a 3.5 out of 5 The hotel and grounds are lovely, as is the beach. Most bar staff are friendly and efficient, as are cleaning staff. Beverage service in the main buffet and restaurant by the pool was poor. Why did I have to chase someone down every morning for a cup of coffee and in the evening for a refill of wine?! I am not a prima donna, however I've paid my money for a vacation and don't expect to be treated like a second class citizen. The really ironic part is that we had been upgraded to the "privileged section" of the hotel and frequently sat in the "privileged" section of the buffet. No special services here - we often didn't get minimal service, and we are not difficult people. While my experience at Hotel Catalonia (Bavaro) was not completely terrible, I would never stay there again. 1. THERE IS NO HOT WATER FOR SHOWERING. We turned on the hot water to the soaking tub, but only cold water came out. When we turned the shower over to "hot", with the exception of a small drip, there was no water. We tried the water several times […] throughout the day/night, but it never got better. We brought our concerns to the front desk. They simply said they have that problem (no hot water) throughout the resort. 2. THERE IS NO INTERNET IN THE ROOMS. We chose this hotel over another because it offered free internet. Although the Catalonia Bavaro boasts "free wi-fi" and the rooms have "wi-fi zone" signs, there is no internet in the rooms. It is only in the lobby and it is very intermittent. We brought our concerns to the front desk but he simply said they only have internet in the lobby. 3. THE PILLOWS ARE LUMPY & THE BEDS WERE EXTREMELY HARD. The beds are not comfortable. We woke up sore every day. We brought up our concerns to the front desk but they said all of their beds are like that. 4. THE FOOD IS BELOW AVERAGE. While there was a huge selection, the quality of the food was poor. 5. SOME STAFF MEMBERS WERE UNPROFESSIONAL. Although we were very kind and polite to the server at Le Toscana, she chose to repeatedly roll eyes and slam down plates. 6. THEY GIVE YOU RESTAURANT VOUCHERS FOR RESTAURANTS THAT ARE CLOSED. I went with a friend for a relaxing vacation and that's exactly what I got. The resort was big with mutiple places to eat, a large pool area and right on the beach. The beach and pool are gorgeous. We went kayaking and snorkeling, which were both amazing. (Kayaking included, snorkeling $40). Went as a couple, next time will stay @ adults only resort. Food is what you'd expect from all-inclusive resort. I do remember the food and drinks being better at Riu Palace in Punta Cana, though. Room was very clean. for the most part it was a very nice stay . the staff were all awesome and most spoke english which is a bonous when you dont speak spanish . the food was average to very good . the buffet was overall a good mix and good hours . the other places to eat were hit and miss . the asian one was great , the mexican , so so and the italian was not open when […] we wanted to go , so cant say . this is a huge layout so it was a long walk to all the big food venues . we were at the far end , good in some ways though . close to the great pool and beach . there are some places to eat there , but not as much choice as up front . you can only get free beer in your room , we wanted rum , so we had to go to the bar and when that shuts down , your kinda screwed , unless you go buy your own . the room was very comfy ( king bed ) but the pillows sucked . lots of room for 2 of us with sofa and chairs . their beach is wicked and lots of seating down there . the water was so warm and clean . i would tell friends to stay here, just be ready for lots of walks ! Wow the Catalonia Bavario was awesome!! The staff at the hotel were great. At check in I was taken care of quickly and because my room was not ready, they provided me with an upgrade, which was very nice. The Italian restaurant was great, The steak house food was not good, they touted a MD Crabcake, which they should be arrested for saying. MD Crabcakes […] are lump crab meat and they are fried. What they served was not even close. Stop it. The food throughout the resort is excellent they have a large variety and the food is tasty and safe. The rooms, boast soaking tubs, separate showers, comfy beds, flast screens etc. The beach was great with plenty of seating under unbrellas, or on lounge chairs. The pool had plenty of shade and sun. This was just a fantastic experience. They also offered enough activities on the beach to keep you entertained. Please tip, the staff appreciates it.. There is a bank, which needs to be enlarge and be more considerate to it's customers, also check out staff needs to be more considerate as well. It is a good hotel but my room had a poor air conditioner,old TV with noise,and the refrigerator never got cold just fresh,and there is not acomodation for babies(cribs)
