Hotel 53 — York

Was just one night. Arrived late evening and night duty staff member was excellent and very welcoming. Day staff were less charming and could be improved

We stayed in this hotel April 2012 for 2 nights, had a brilliant stay, lovely clean comfy room, gorgeous hotel brilliant location and fantastic staff very helpful and excellent knowledge of the surrounding area!! Loved it!!

Excellent Hotel, very modern. Very quiet area of town even though it's on a bus route. Great location 10 minutes walk from the city centre. Car park is just across the road and is very secure it's locked at 9pm. We plan to stay again in July.

Second time we have stayed at this hotel and would thoroughly recommend it. Very convenient for City centre, within easy walking distance. Staff extremely friendly and very helpful. Very clean, modern rooms. Lovely breakfast. All in all good value for money and will definitely stay again next time we visit York.

Very modern and clean, lovely rooms with very comfy beds and pillows. Nice toiletries. Great location for everything York has to offer. We were going to the Barbican which was a 5 minute walk away. Fira alarm went off at 2am which caused great excitement to everyone but staff were very apologetic

Clean tidy modern hotel, helpful staff

We only stayed one night and had hardly any sleep due to fire alarm going off at 1.30am which resulted in evacuation of the hotel. Our room (207) was above the very noisy air conditioning units outside which woke us up constantly throughout the night. The lifts were not working. Perhaps this was not the best day for me to at the hotel 53. When I got there someone immediately offered to help with my bags. I declined. The receptionist then said that the reason the guy had offered was that the lift was not working. My room was on the 4th floor and I had 3 bags. I asked if I could reconsider and he duly reappeared and took one […] of my bags. The room was fine free wifi etc. Location was ok too. All was well until the fire alarm went off at 1am and we all had to evacuate the building. Good job it wasn;t too freezing out. The breakfast was about £11. A liitle steep I thought. The receptionist said have you not got a voucher? You can get a £ off. I had a bacon role for £2.50 from a cafe near the Uni. Job done. On leaving they said I had just £10 to pay for car parking. My wife and found Hotel 53 to be a roomy, comfortable and convenient Hotel near York's center. A great alternative to the older hotels and B&Bs. The room was large, the bathroom clean and modern and the overall facility was clean and bright. The bar was a welcome break after an evening out at one of the quaint restaurants nearby. This hotel, within the city walls, is perfect for a city break in York. Friendly efficient staff, relaxed atmosphere, smart reception area, clean functional rooms offer great value with no fuss. I would definitely stay there again.

My partner and I stayed here from 23rd-25th February for my 21st and were very impressed. The service was faultless, they helped us a lot in organising things to do. Myself and my teenage daughter stayed here in February 2012. The staff are extremely helpful, courteous and polite. It took us just 5 minutes walk to get into the centre of town. The hotel is very 'boutique' like, clean and tidy. Shared areas had were fresh and clean. Our only tiny gripe was that the full length mirror in our room was above the desk […] in a corner so you had to stand on a chair to get a full view, didn't bother me but you know what teenagers are like. We found this hotel by luck (cheapest for dates of travel) as we decided to have a last minute half term treat with the kids. The check in was painless, staff efficient. The room was modern and practical, a little neat for two adults & 2 kids but we were only staying one night so didnt need to worry too much. We all loved the walk in shower! The room […] and shower room/toilet were all clean. Plenty of toiletries and coffee etc. The room was ready for 4 of us (plenty of towels etc). This hotel feels like a boutique travelodge - suited us perfectly!! All the attractions in York are a short walk away, there is ample public parking around at a price! Hotel 53 is located almost behind Clifford Tower and so is only 5-10mins walk from the main activities in York. Piccadilly Car park for those driving is just 2 mins away. The fact that its right across the street from the Travelodge is even more amusing.... This is a High Quality Budget Hotel. This was the third time that we have stayed here and the service has been excellent everytime. Hotel is very clean and tidy and situated within 10 minutes of the city centre. We were going to spend a few days there during February half term but very disappointed to note that large increase in room rates.

Loved the fact that you could walk everywhere as we did quite a bit of shopping. The room was a good size and comfortable.

I stayed for 3 nights in November . Room was very clean with towels and bedding changed each day . Food in the restaurant was delicious and reasonably priced . The hotel is centrally located within easy walking distance of all the main attractions

Lovely hotel, close to everything in York. Very nice and modern with decent bathroom and shower too. Beds lovely and comfy, only complaint was the noisy 'rustling' the duvet made whenever you moved! Didn't eat here, because wanted to explore the City restaurants, but it looked nice on the menu. The hotel is situated about 10 mins walk into the centre of York. The room was bright and clean and it was one of the quietest I have stayed in. Very convenient for the York Castle Museum. . Breakfast is a bit pricy and could have done with being a lot hotter but overall a good stay.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel and we find it very convient. Everything is within walking distance. I would stay again when I visit next year.

I found Hotel 53 to be a lovely base for a weekend in York. I stayed in a room with my children using the double bed and the pull-out sofa bed. We has pre-booked 2 twin bed and arrived to a room with the beds pushed together, They has us wait in the lobby while they fixed the mistake and then never even notified us when the room was done. Very conveniently located for York city centre. Not the smartest of areas but felt safe. Parking across the road was convenient (you could pop in and out whenever you wanted for the one £10 charge). Modern, simple, hotel - basically what it says is what you get.

the staff are very freindly,helpful.the rooms are very clean and comfortable.food was delicious from meal in resteraunt to the breakfast buffet,the only snag was the wait for our masin meal which took a while but apart from that was a fantastic stay.

Amazing hotel . Stayed for 2 nights would defo stay again . Was close to the town. And all the sights.. Also had a meal in the hotel which was lovely. Was sad to leave.

Wonderful hotel, very friendly and helpful staff. This was my first visit to York and I would most certainly choose Hotel 53 again for my next trip. Highly recommended.

Pretty good hotel for a night or two. No air con & noisy outside could cause problems for light sleepers on warm nights.

The hotel was very clean and room was excellent. the only complaint was the sound of the outside fans on the roof which were on all night and kept everyone up. Also they do not tell you about the ten pound car park charge

Very smart hotel, clean, nice bathroom and very comfortable beds. Not much room to spare with both beds out but that's about normal. Very good value compared to many others on offer. We went to Weatherspoons opposite for breakfast & dinner which I would highly recommend. Would definitely stay again.

Very modern clean hotel, convenient for the City Centre. Staff were courteous and helpful. Would have been nice to have bigger beds though in such a large room. Overall a nice reasonably priced hotel that we would stay in again.

The hotel location is excellent, a short walk away are shops, restaurants and several of the attractions in York. The railway station is within walking distance too. The room was comfortable if a little small, the bed was one of the best I've slept on in a hotel. The view out of the window was a little disappointing to say the least.
