Glenmoriston Townhouse Hotel — Inverness

First class location (on the banks of the river Ness). Got the upgraded room - well worth it

In Inverness for a wedding, we stayed five nights at the Glenmoriston. The service was wonderful without being obtrusive, the location is simply perfect along the river, and we enjoyed every minute of our time.

This hotel just didn't work for me for the price I paid. The location was scenic along the Ness and it was very quiet with little to no thru traffic. I was in town for the Highland Games, but that was the only convenience of the hotel location. It is a bit of a hike from the train station in Inverness and the road it is located on doesn't have bus […] stops. There are some restaurants nearby, but the vast majority are in town which is a short walk. Beware: the walk into town and to the train station is uphill and it is unkind to those with souvenir laden luggage. The hotel itself was clean overall and the staff seemed friendly. There are no lifts, luggage must be brought up the stairs and depending on the location of the room it varies in difficulty. I had one piece of large luggage and going up the spiraling stairs (to the top floor) located behind reception was doable, but the door that swings toward you at the top was an unpleasant surprise. Some FYI's: they use old fashioned keys in the main building rooms and you must lock yourself into your room at night using your key from the inside and the plumbing in the bathroom hums rather loudly when used. Our room was comfortable, but it was haphazard. The vanity was missing legs on one side and the TV stand was used to prop it up, but the replacement TV stand was too short (you must sit up in bed to be able to see the TV), the back of our remote control was missing, the TV reception was sometimes spotty, and the toilet didn't flush each time because the plumbing in its tank was broken. the room was very clean and tidy. the staff were helpful and friendly at all times. the room was slightly smaller than most hotels, but not cramped. the desk was also a bit small if you wanted to use a laptop, but otherwise there were no problems.

The Glenmoriston is situated on the river just 2 minutes walk from the High Street and is therfore ideally situated for restaurants, bars, shopping and the railway station. The setting is very peaceful and very beautiful, walks along the river are stunning. It appears from the front to be a characterful old red sandstone building but sadly any character […] has been 'wiped out' over the years by the various modern 'lean to' buildings that now create most of the hotel's space. Its a mess of dingy corridors that double as storage space for conference furniture. Little care has been taken to create an ambience, the general atmosphere is standard small modern provincial hotel: DIY store standard decor, dull and uninviting, albeit clean and fresh. There was no artwork in the room, just plain magnolia walls. The room was surrounded on 3 sides by a car park, and I was awakened before 6 a.m. by the staff and services arriving; 20 minutes of slammimg doors and shouting. The bread used for the room service sandwiches was dried up, as if it hadn't been stored properly. Breakfast was standard fare. No air conditioning. We didn't eat at the hotel, but the locals we spoke to highly recommended the restaurant. Looked promising on paper - but just a standard small town hotel. Uzziniet vairāk

The hotel was very good and he location just at the river was very nice. Seems to have very high ambitions, especially when it comes to their restaurants. However, the fine dining restaurant Abstract wasn´t really 100 per cent, seemed to be a lack of staff because the service level wasn´t what you would have expected.
