The location of the hotel is very convenient. It is a very picturesque building set in the middle of traditional Luzern. The cathedral is only a few steps away and the lake is just across the road. The hotel is an eclectic mix of old and new. It is a historical building with a mixture of modern artwork (the hotel is meant to be a showplace for artists) […] and furniture which is a bit of a mismatch (the rooms could do with a revamp in terms of the furniture, bedding and curtains, which are quite outdated). The rooms themselves are very traditional with wooden floors and large beams on the roofs. The service was excellent and the staff were very friendly. The website clearly states that the hotel does not cater for accessibility options. We should have taken more note of this. Since the hotel had a lift, we decided to go ahead with this booking. We were travelling with a six month old and needed a lift for the pushchair. However, the lift, rather bizarrely, only goes to half floors. This means, for example, if you are on the second floor, you have to climb to the half floor by the stairs, take the lift from the half floor to 1.5 floors and then climb the remainder by the stairs. Therefore, if you're looking for a hotel room which has a lift but not full accessibility options i.e. not for someone with disabilities but simply for getting access, for example, with a pushchair, this may not be the hotel for you. This hotel was a true find in Lucerne. All the staff were very friendly and helpful especially those working at reception and the breakfast area. Hotel over looks a small square and the lake is within sight, with the Church of St. Leodegar towering over it. Easy walking distance to the Lowendenkmal, shopping, and the Chapel Bridge. This was one the most expensive hotel on our European vacation, but it was very nice, and a wonderful way to enjoy our time in Lucerne.

We enjoyed Luzern, very pretty, the food was excellent in the hotel. The church next door with the bell ringing every 15 minutes in the night doesnt make sleep easy, this is not the hotel fault.

The hotel is the middle of a block, and is not on the street. Even when I found the hotel it took a while to figure out how to reach it. There is no on-property parking, so valet parking will be an added expense. Although the hotel has an elevator there are a lot of half-floors so this hotel would not be easy for the handicapped to use. No air conditioning, though this is not usually a problem in Switzerland. Overall, it was a nice stay. At first, I didn't believe the room had twin beds because they were covered with one very large spread. The price was the highest of any of the eight hotels we stayed at during our European trip.

Being a senior, thewilling help getting bags up to and down from my room on the 3rd floor was no problem for them. The attic room was an experience in the 14th cent section. This hotel on the opposite side of Lake Luzern from the Bahnhof is a very old building and our room had lovely wooden ceiling beams. The room was large with a desk and sitting area. Shower was the largest we've ever had in Europe. Very modern. The receptionists were very friendly and knowledgable and the breakfast buffet was filling and extensive. The […] elevator stops between floors so you will either have to stop above your room's floor or below. Just a note for anyone who has problems with stairs. And now, the bathroom door: The door is made of 5 glass panels. The middle three are frosted glass, but the top and bottom panels are clear glass. Since the door of the bathroom is just a few inches from the toilet, when someone is using the toilet the other person outside the bathroom can view their feet with, perhaps, their pants down around their ankles. Does anyone really need to see that? The glass also possibly increases any "sounds" coming from the bathroom. Also, if you get up during the night, turning on the bathroom light will shed light through to the bedroom possibly awakening the other person. Who makes these design decisions? This hotel is close to the lake, the Bahnhof, and the main city attractions. It is right next to a church that plays its bells every 15 minutes. I've used the Rebstock for years: mercifully ungrand (there are Swiss resort hotels that make you feel you should wear a tie to bed) eccentric in the best way, full of idiosyncratic art, friendly and very comfortable, a decent kitchen and excellent breakfast. It stands one block back from the lake at a quarter the price of the behemoth hotels with a […] direct lake view (although there are rooms at the top which can match them -- a terrace looking out to mountains both ways.) You're ten minutes brisk walk, two tram stops from the railway station, and next door to the church which holds the dragon chasuble (ask; you may not get a direct answer.) Rather wonderful church bells may not seem so wonderful if you're trying to sleep in. The building itself is handsome red half-timber with user-friendly adjustments (and a modern bit.) The bar and the restaurants, including a cool garden, are much used by locals, which makes for a good mix (it's hard to forget that the place is popular -- in summer, in some of the rooms at the front.). I do miss the great lady who once owned and ran the place -- and once gave me pralines because she hated to see people all sad at leaving -- but the Rebstock remains a very rare kind of charming, as well as comfortable and practical and all the other good things. What not to LOVE, very easy to get around in the lovely city. It is my second trip here and have loved it. Some complained of the Chirch bells, I didn't find them to be a problem. The apartment (room no 158)was on the 5 th floor and the view was fantastic, I could see the lake Lucerne and the fabled wooden bridge right from the apartment !!!
