This lakeshore town near the Swiss border has elegant parks and medieval buildings. It also has a busy industrial quarter based on silk manufacture, and is a fine place for shopping. A museum traces the history of Como’s textiles, which still supply the great fashion houses of Europe. Main sights are a handsome Gothic - Renaissance cathedral, and the Romanesque church of Sant’Abbondio, decorated with 14th-century frescoes.

"Spectacular View of Lake Como"
Hotel Vista Lago overlooks Lake Como from the small village of Brunate some 700m above the lake. The view from our 3rd floor room was nothing short of stunning! We chose to stay in Brunate rather than down in Como for the view and for a less crowded experience. Overall, we were quite pleased with our stay, especially with the superb personal service […] that we received. Thanks Silva! Also, the dinner prepared by the owner himself was great! We didn't order anything. He just prepared a meal and we enjoyed it! Really good! Now a few words of caution: First, the drive up the "hill" to Brunate is a challenge, regardless of your skill level. We made it up and down just fine, but, it was pretty interesting, especially when having to navigate around oncoming buses! We decided to use the Funiculare (very convenient) for our trips up and down the hill other than when we left. Next, you have to realize that this is a very small hotel with only a handful of rooms. Also,our room was very clean and newly renovated, but, very small by American standards. This was no problem at all, but, worth noting if you are not used to smaller European rooms. Finally, there really is no parking at the hotel. At the owner's instructions, I parked at the Funiculare and was given a remote for the gate for that parking lot. Despite this, when I got in my car to leave, I was chewed out by a local who told me the parking was only for the Funiculare customers. "Best place ever"
We stayed with my fiancee in this hotel mid august 2011. First we were suppose to stay there only for 3 days but we fell in love with the place and decided to stay few days longer. The staff was very nice, even though the language skills were not the best, the smiles were big and real. Food in the hotel restaurant was delicious and the chef/manager […] of the hotel created a different menu for every night. Prices for food and alcohol were cheap in the hotel and much better than in restaurants down in Laco di Como. Scenery around the hotel was beautiful and the view amazing. The room a had a big balcony with an amazing view of the whole valley and the lake. Theres nothing negative to say about this hotel. Would love to stay there again and probably will! We felt the staff were very warm, pleasant and welcoming. The kitchen and dining room were well maintained and food was well presented and reasonably priced.On two mornings at breakfast there was a shortage of bread and no butter was available. We enjoyed our stay and would readily recommend it to our friends.

"Not worth the effort"
Yes there were dramatic views, although view of lake was restricted even on the second floor. The drive up to the hotel is hair-raising to say the least and when we got there the car had to be parked 200 metres away from the hotel next to a crumbling building and we were charged for the priviledge when we checked out. The funicular was closed and as […] a result local restaurants were shut too. This was a Wednesday in July! "Don't stay here unless you have nothing else!"
Ants on the bed when I arrived. Showed up past 10 (not knowing that I couldn't check in after this) and they were going to refuse me a room. Finally met me (with a huge attitude) and charged me $35.00 for checking in after 10. So-so breakfast. Asked for new milk, because the milk that had been sitting out was warm and they freaked out. "Should be called Hotel NO Vista Lago"
Nice hotel with very polite staff, very clean rooms and beautiful views. Though, due to the setting, there is no view of the Lake (from the first floor rooms) so the name is somewhat amusing. The restaurant is closed, which is somewhat dissapointing but there is a very good restaurant just 100m away (Bella Vista).
"Beautiful Location, peaceful stay, good value"
Review for a top floor single room. Room was very small with thin walls and noisy bathroom extraction which could become annoying if neighbouring guests forgot to switch theirs off after use. Also loud church bells from 7am which is out of hotel's control. Hotel exterior requires some renovation, however my stay was not quite in season maybe this is […] planned. Also note restaurant currently not open as no chef. Limited car parking and a 5 minute uphill walk from the funicular station if you have luggage. Breakfast usual European cold buffet and was OK but started from 08.30, 08.00 would be better as allows for better transport connections down in Como for sightseeing. HOWEVER now for the many plus points...my room was clean and had a massive terrace with views across Brunate and down over miles of the Lombard plains, beautiful to watch the lights come on of an evening with no noise other than birdsong. The lady who runs the hotel is very helpful and friendly, multilingually. Free WiFi in reception area. Brunate village is a peaceful and beautiful location with tremendous views down to Lake Como, it was nice to get back into the cool and peace of the mountains after the bustle of the lakeside. The village is quiet but not a ghost town and had a real community feel with exhibitions and events on. I reccommend Cafe Bracconeri near the lower exit from the funicular station for regional home-style cooking at a fair price and 3 michelin-star views from its dining room and terrace, dont be intimidated by the local cafe appearance there was a good mix of locals and tourists and never too busy. Overall good value for money compared with hotels on the lake, even allowing for funicular fares, I would certainly go back (try and get a top floor room) 4/5. Uzziniet vairāk

the hotel was very good, comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast seemed a little sparce, the shower stall tiles were mouldy and this should not have occurrerd. Shower base weas clean rthough. The vbiew was spectacular from our window too. No restaurant though which was a bit disappointing as there was nothing else on top open & we had to to down […] to Como. Would recommend all the same. On arrival almost to the top of this wonderful location was the hotel Vista Lago. If you are looking for a tranquil idylic retreat away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life this hotel is well worth a visit.The views are amazing from the room, and the village of Brunate is well worth visiting itself. The funicular is a few paces away and every […] half hour service. There is an amazing trattoria just down from the hotel with an overhanging roof terrace, the sunset and risotto is second to none. The staff at the hotel were very helpful with the local knowledge of places to see and recommended Bellagio as a day trip, and they were right, it was breathtaking. Other reviewers will mention the drive up the hill to Brunate. After living in Italy for a year, I say the drive is an experience everyone should have. You have to be a brave driver and take your time, but it is part of the trip experience. I was a little concerned when we first arrived the sign on the door said the restaurant was closed and I wasn't sure how to get into the hotel itself. Parking was limited and on the street. Great place to stay! Much easier if we had taken the funicular (sp?) railway instead of driving to Brunate. Kind of scary twisty narrow drive up over 2500 ft of altitude - and I live in Colorado! People taking train to Como will have it best since you'll get off the train and get onto the funicular a short walk from the station, which is very reasonably […] priced and runs until about 10PM (2200 for you 24 hr clock types). "The Hotel Vista Lago- my husband's favorite stay"
My husband has declared Hotel Vista Lago his favorite stay on our trip. This lovely, small hotel is not for those who like a modern “box”. Because of the location the view of Lake Como is fabulous, both day and night. The funicular runs every 15 minutes, so getting back down to the lake is no problem. After a long travel day, we stayed on the mountain […] and had a wonderful dinner at a restaurant just South of the funicular station. Brunate is the type of small Italian town you hope to experience. The Hotel Vista Lago has a wonderful “Old World” feel with modern conveniences, a very decent breakfast, and friendly staff. "Hotel Vista Lago - you can see the lake!"
Once the front desk gal showed up and we got into our room, all was pretty good. The room was hot and we tried cranking up what we thought was the AC (turns out it was the heater) and then went out to explore. When we came back the room was SUPER hot. We called the front desk and they said the rooms don't have AC so we turned off the heater, opened […] all the doors and got things cooled down. We'd walked to the market and picked up food and wine which we enjoyed while watching the sunset from the balcony of our unit (we had #12). If you can get a higher floor it might help with some of the road noise and get you a better view. The bells from the church next door make sure you don't sleep in if you're a late sleeper. The walk to the Funiculare is just a couple minutes at most and the views and ability to see Como and the Lake that this vertical cable car offer are great for guests staying in Brunate. The included breakfast was great and the gal at the desk/bar makes your coffee to order - yes! The decor and condition of the hotel is fine. We had two centipedes in our room which was a bit weird, but part of the experience. Maid service was great. The beds were fine. If we go back to the area we'll probably stay lakeside, but not because this place wasn't good - just that we'd like to be nearer the water. Oh - the drive up/down to Brunate is not for the faint of heart and parking is limited... Visit Lake Como if you can - it's nice! Pieni hotelli sijaitsee Brunatessa aivan funikulaarin vieressä eli jännittävän köysiratajunamatkan päässä Comosta. Söpö kylä, mutta ei juuri palveluja muutamaa ravintolaa/hotellia lukuunottamatta. Hyvät ulkoilumaastot ja yhteys Comon kaupunkiin. Vaikutti perheyritykseltä tms. jossa ainoastaan yksi työntekijä puhui englantia. Huone modernisti sisustettu […] ja siisti. Hotellin hintaan ei ainakaan meille kuulunutkaan aamupala, josta sitten maksoimme erikseen 7e/hlö, mutta ihan maittava oli! Söimme myös illallisen yhtenä iltana: ruokalistaa ei ollut, ensin kysyttiin mitä haluaisimme syödä ja sitten kerrottiin mitä oli - ja vaihtoehtoja oli aikalailla tasan yksi. Hyvää ja perinteistä italialaista ruokaa kuitenkin oli ja ilmeisesti joka päivä vähän eri valikoima:) Perushyvä hotelli, mutta jos Comon keskustassa enemmän haluaa seikkailla, voi sijainti alkaa vähän rassaamaan. Positiv: Zimmer neu renoviert. Sehr sauber. Tolle Lage überm See. Negativ: Personal nicht vom Fach. Frühstück sehr mager. Schwierige Anfahrt, schwer zu finden. Parkmöglichkeit beschränkt.
Wir waren auf der Durchreise in die Toskana. Das Personal war sehr freundlich, das Hotel sauber und es liegt wunderschön oberhalb des Comer Sees. Die Straße zu dem Hotel ist relativ schmal und es geht teilweise in Serpentinen in die Höhe. Das Hotel hat einen Parkplatz und man kann in wenigen Schritten vom Hotel aus an die Bahn laufen, die direkt nach […] Como in die Stadt führt. Uns hat es dort sehr gut gefallen. "Übernachtung mit schönem Ausblick"
Die Zimmer sind schön eingerichtet und sehr sauber, auch wenn die Fassade nicht den Eindruck danach erweckt. Am Morgen wurde kein Frühstück serviert, obwohl aufgetischt war. Leider wurde uns auch keines zu einem kleinen Aufpreis angeboten.

"Vista Lago à Brunate : 10 min en voiture de Come"
Petit hôtel (auberge ?) propre et patron très accueillant et arrangeant. Il prépare lui même les pastas le soir et c'est très bon ! (se renseigner toutefois sur l'ouverture du restaurant car pas tous les jours) Ambiance familiale : idéal hors saison. Idéalement situé 2 minutes à pied de l'arrivée du funiculaire. Vue sur le lac de Come.

"Schöne Aussicht, aber...."
Das hotel liegt sehr schön und ist mit einer Seilbahn direkt an como angebunden. Das Essen ist soweit OK, der Service bietet sehr großen Unterhaltungswert für Gäste mit Humor...leider war das Zimmer nicht sehr sauber und das Frühstück ging so.

O grande problema q tive com esse hotel é q solicitei no site da hoteis.com apenas hoteis em milao a 10km do centro de milao e apareceu como opcao esse hotel em q acabei reservando. Mas ele nao fica em milao. Ele fica a uma hora de carro de milao o que complicou muito a minha viagem. Mas o hotel propriamente dito é bem limpo e um otimo cafe da manha. super schön gelegenes Hotel, wahnsinns Aussicht. Leider sind die Zimmer im Sommer sehr, sehr "heiß" da keine Klimaanlage vorhanden ist.Aber die Lage des Hotels entschädigt einen mit einen sensationellen Blick auf den Comersee und Como, so das man gar nicht schlafen gehen möchte und die ganze Nacht vom Balkon den Blick geniessen möchte.
Très bon accueil qui donne envie de le recommander et d'y retourner. Seul bémol, l'antenne radiocom sur le toit, mais pour une nuit dans cet environnement, on accepte un peu de rayonnement électromagnétique.

Отдыхали на майских семьей с маленьким ребенком, жили на 3-м этаже, вид из окна и с балкона компенсирует с запасом наличие муравьев в номере. Персонал приветливый, завтрак стандартный, для ребенка выдали стул для кормления. Попали два раза на бармена, который зажал круасаны на завтрак)) В шаговой доступности фуникулер, у его нижней станции целая улица […] с ресторанами, на верху тоже есть один или два) Ходили до маяка, там смотровая площадка, вид красивый. la réalité est bien différente des photos. chambre très sale, terrasse tellement sale que l'on ne peut s'asseoir. climatisation inexistante. parking derrière un vieux batiment en ruine. le restaurant n'existe plus depuis plusieurs années!!!!!. le bar, un comptoir de 2 mètres avec 2 tabourets. pourtant, tout ceci existe sur le site de l'hotel et c'est […] la surprise à l'arrivée. pour notre séjour, le funiculaire était en panne. tres bon emplacement tout proche du funiculaire pour descendre à Côme. Tres belle vue.
superbe vue sur le lac et la ville le personnel est très sympathique et parle francais l'acces peut être difficile pour les grosses voitures (routes étroites)

Vi anlände med bilen rätt så sent på kvällen (kl.20.00). Rätt så svårt att hitta, speciellt i mörker. Slingrande smal och brant väg... Han som körde tyckte att det var kul!! Receptionen var stängd, telefon nummer på dörren samt nyckel i blomkrukan utanför... Vi såg inte till personalen överhuvudtaget, vi fick ingen frukost under hela vistelsen (fast […] det ingick!). Vi checkade inte ens in.... Läget är högt uppe på berget, fantastisk utsikt, linbanan mycket nära. Kyrka bredvid som slår varje hel och halv timme. Das Hotel ist sehr ungepflegt, Aussen wie Innen. Jedoch die Zimmer sind sauber und zweckmässig eingerichtet. Offensichtlich ist ab Mitte Oktober nicht mehr Saison und entsprechend waren die Dienstleistungen sehr reduziert. Im Restaurant gab es ein limitiertes Angebot an Frühstück. Ab 20:00 Uhr waren keine Angestellte mehr im Hotel anzutreffen. Ein weiterer […] Punkt sind die Parkplätze. Es gibt keine öffentliche. Für 5 Euro im Tag kann 300 Meter vom Hotel entfernt geparkt werden. Da das ganze ausserhalb der Saison ist, sollte man dem Gast nicht den vollen Saisonpreis verrechnen. Ich erwarte da eine Reduktion. Achtung. Unter 50 Euro muss Bar bezahlt werden. Nicht einmal mit DEBIT Karte (MAESTRO). Alles in allem kann ich das Hotel nicht weiter empfehlen. Uzziniet vairāk
Wir konnten nicht anreisen weil das hotel nichts für menschen mit höhenangst ist. deshalb versuchte ich das Hotel zu erreichen um die buchung rückgängig zu machen. anscheinend nimmt man da tagsüber das telefon nicht ab. konnte niemand erreichen. muss wohl jetzt alles bezahlen.

the staff was very helpful. the rooms on the small side but clean. Quiet neighbourhood. excellent breakfast. hotel has a car park nearby. Location of the hotel is close to the funicular going to Como. Overall very happy with our stay there. Would certainly recommend and go back.

El Hotel nos gusto mucho, esta muy bien ubicado, con una hermosa vista sobre el lago de Como, la habitacion y el servicio esta muy de acuerdo al precio pagado y la amabilidad de la gente del hotel fue muy agradable. En suma, un hotel para recomendar!

"heerlijk rustig"
Heerlijk rustig gelegen, hoog boven Como! Met de auto bereikbaar via smalle, steile weg. Centrum Como met tandradbaan bereikbaar. Leuk en gezellig. Service in hotel prima. Géén luxe, maar wel goed en netjes.

Hade själv kollat dåligt och var oförberedd på att hotellet låg högt över Como. men när väl detta stod klart och vi kommit över stress att köra upp, rekommenderar att ta Funicolare upp, bergbana. sen fridfullt , härlig luft, vacker lite by och verkligen glad över att av misstag bokat Brunate och trott i Como!
"OK hotel med sjov beliggenhed"
Hotellet ligger i Brunate, altså oppe på en bjergside med udsigt over Como by. Det er rimelig besværligt og nervepirrende at køre op til hotellet, men heldigvis er der en cable car tæt på hotellet, så man kan komme ned til Como hurtigt og bekvemt. Selve hotellet er ganske udmærket. Intet at skrive hjem om som sådan. Desværre var vores værelse ikke […] helt rent. Jeg tror dette skyldes, at rengøringen ikke var færdiggjort på vores værelse, da rengøringsprodukter lå inde på badeværelset. Man bliver vækket tidligt om morgen af den nærliggende kirkes klokker. Gode værelser. God morgenmad. Super service fra personale. Lille minus for manglende aircondition - vores søn sov på altanen. Vær opmærksom på at det er en meget skrap og LANG opkørsel af bjergvej til hotellet. Flot udsigt over Comosøen. Der går et kabeltog ned til byen - skal prøves.
