The Reef Playacar Resort & Spa - Optional All Inclusive

Pros: Great beach, friendly staff, well kept scenic grounds with interesting wildlife, comfy bed, good a la carte restaurants with reservation, fun activities (bike tour was really fun), walking distance to downtown PDC Cons: small and very overcrowded pool, was not able to get a pool chair in 3 days there, buffet and drink quality lacking Would stay again but would probably opt out of all-inclusive option and eat out in town

Booked it got there they said they didn’t have a room for me and moved us to there cheaper worse hotel. Got there they didn’t have the room with queen we booked so they put us In a 2 double room so my wife and I had to sleep in different beds. The room the gave us was under the wood walkway leaving the lobby to go to the pool. So we could hear every person walking out all night and all morning we had no view except for the view of under the stairs we ordered a garden view. I feel I got ripped off!!!

the staff was rude and unaccommodating. treated us like we were inconveniencing them by being there. room smelled like mildew, fridge was dirty, and there were rodent feces by our spa tub. personal items were stolen if left poolside for any amount of time. arbitrary rules about which bars you could order from and the buffet was less than appealing and overpriced. save yourself the hassle, don’t book here.

Paid for Superior Garden View and Balcony but received neither. Front desk staff simply said “they had no other rooms to meet what I booked on Expedia” Front desk staff was rude and uncaring and even at check out the following day didn't ask how my stay was or any type of apology. Room was in much worse shape than my stay a year ago as well as hotel appearance and much more limited food selection. I won’t stay here again. PADI DIVE SHOP was still awesome and the pool and swim up bars were great. But the Resort has sadly taken a turn for the worse in a years time and the front desk staff have a terrible smug attitude that pretty much starts things off bad from the beginning. Plus a Balcony is NOT a ground level object and a WALL is not my idea of a superior garden view. So disappointed I really used to like this place.

Recently visited for 5 nights and paid for the "upgraded" amenities. Mini bar never got restocked even after us requesting it multiple times, "exclusive" beach bar was not exclusive, visited one of the sister properties (Reef 28) and was asked to pay after being told our gold bracelet got us all amenities at all of their properties. Saw multiples guests not wearing masks properly or at all in areas where it was mandatory and the staff did nothing to correct it. Food was a good as you can expect at an all inclusive and during a pandemic. Will definitely not go back to a Reef property.

Loved the layout and the breakfast/ buffet area. Rooms were nice as well

The front desk had excellent staff. The service was better this year than last.

Overall, this was a stay i would repeat.
